Doctor Check-Up

Your First Visit

Gentle Care.
Clear Communication.
Outstanding Results.

Become a knowledgeable partner in your health.

Your first visit to our office is one of the most important.  This is a time where we get the opportunity to meet you and understand your dental goals, needs, and concerns.  Each patient is different, and we believe that our discussions should be individualized to support that.  There are often several options for dental treatment and our comprehensive interview and dental examination allow us the opportunity to plan and discuss the highest level of care with you.  Even if you have been afraid to visit the dentist or have received another opinion, come and see us.  We will answer your questions, carefully listen to your concerns, explain your options and help achieve the healthy smile you want, one step at a time.

Receive one of the most comprehensive dental examinations you’ve ever had.

We have a reputation for providing our patients with extremely detailed dental exams.  First, we will perform a medical history review, temperature reading, and blood  pressure test.  We will then take new x-rays (if needed) and dental photographs to have a complete record of your current dental status. The doctor will have already reviewed your case and will complete a new periodontal (gum) and dental exam. During the examination, we will make every effort to explain what we are looking for and why. We know you are not a dentist, but we can make sure that you understand the health status of your mouth. We both have the same goal of achieving the healthiest smile for the rest of your life.

Bite check and oral cancer screening

Not all dental problems come from cavities and gum disease.  The damage that we do to our teeth through clenching, grinding, or an unhealthy bite is often overlooked.  Not by our office. We will see how your teeth fit together and make notes on any damage that poses a problem. In addition, we check for any abnormal bumps, coloration, or swelling that may be concerning.  Oral cancer, although very rare, is checked

Smile evaluation

We believe that every patient can achieve the smile they want. It is our job to figure out what that is and how we can get there together.  A smile evaluation looks at the cosmetics of the smile and the shape/position of teeth, as well as anything that you would like to see different.

Treatment consultation

Dr. Setter and his staff will review each problem tooth with you so that you have a complete picture of the state of your oral health.  We will take the time to go over different treatment options and explain them fully.  This way, you can make smart, educated decisions regarding your smile and health.  Sometimes, we will need extra time to fully plan a case with your dentist and we may bring you back for a separate consultation visit.  You can rest easy knowing that we will do all the work behind the scenes to prepare a detailed, efficient path to the healthiest smile possible.
